Giving Up on Minecraft Education
For the last two weeks I have attempted to purchase Minecraft Education for our students. Unfortunately, Microsoft, the owner of Minecraft, placed some technical hurdles in our way that we were unable to overcome. I regret that we will be unable to offer this activity.

Peanut Essay Info — Not an Assignment
This is not an assignment, or extra credit. I am just passing along the information in case you are interested.
Teachers….
Attached is the Alabama 4-H Peanut Essay information for this year. This was intended to be distributed to your schools earlier, but was delayed due to the recent storm. The deadline for the Houston County Extension Office to receive all essays is November 9th. All bona fide youth 4-H ages 9 to 18 are eligible to participate.
What are the objectives for the Peanut Essay Contest?
· To help students become aware of the importance of peanuts and the contribution they make to the world
· For students to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that will be useful in later life
What’s the prize for winners?
· Classrooms – ribbons will be awarded to each participating classroom
· County – Trophies will be awarded to each individual winner in each age division (1st, 2nd and 3rd place)
· State – For those students winning 1st place in County (for each age division), essays will be forwarded to the State Competition where State winners receive monetary awards and plaques (1st, 2nd and 3rd place)
We hope some of your students will choose to participate!

Study for the Midterm
We have a midterm on Thursday this week. The midterm was announced at the beginning of the year and occasional reminders have been provided. It has been listed on the board all year. I hope everyone has been reviewing Quizlet. For your convenience, here is a link to all the study guides that will be on the midterm:
https://quizlet.com/TimeMachine/folders/geography-midterm/sets
The midterm counts as a 100 point grade weighted at 60% like any other test. I want students to become accustomed to taking midterms and finals in middle school before grades affect scholarship dollars in the ninth-grade.
